Restoring confidence
Breast reduction is a common procedure that is often covered by insurance. The procedure involves reducing the size of your breasts as well as lifting the nipple & areola to a more youthful position.
Patients interested in breast reduction often have back/neck pain, rash or skin breakdown under the breasts, and shoulder grooving from their bra. For most patients it is recommended that a mammogram be obtained before a breast reduction.
Helping your vitality shine through
During the procedure we will likely use a Wise pattern incision, sometimes referred to as an anchor-shaped incision, to access and reduce the breast. Excess tissue will be removed and sent to pathology to examine the tissue. The nipple & areola will be lifted and the incisions closed to reshape the breast. Drains are often placed and a surgical bra will be applied.
The operation is often performed on an outpatient basis and general anesthesia is required.
What to expect during your recovery
The recovery time varies for each patient. However, many patients return to nonstrenuous work within 1-2 weeks. Drains are usually removed 7-10 days after surgery. We recommend not wearing an underwire bra until you are well healed. You should plan on avoiding submerging your incision under water (swimming, bath tubs, etc) for 3-4 weeks. Other restrictions and recovery expectations will be discussed during your consultation.
