Confidence building procedures

Aging, weight fluctuations, and other factors can lead to body changes that may be detrimental to a man’s self confidence. While diet and exercise may help address some of these concerns, structures such as the nose and eyelids will need surgical solutions for change.

For the men that seek consultation with us we take the time to have a clear understanding of their concerns and perform a detailed exam to develop a surgical plan that best addresses the problem.

Some common operations that men will elect to undergo include gynecomastia surgery, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and liposuction. Further information regarding these procedures can be found below.

Dealing with gynecomastia

Gynecomastia has various causes such as hormonal abnormalities, weight gain, and certain medications. The severity is variable and can be upsetting to some men. Prior to surgery, the cause of your gynecomastia should try to be determined in order to avoid recurrence of this condition.

There are different techniques for gynecomastia surgery. Liposuction may be used to help remove tissue or an incision may be placed around the areola for direct excision of more fibrous tissue. Many times a combination of these procedures may be used. In severe cases, the nipple/areola may need to be removed and replaced as a graft in order to remove excessive skin and underlying tissue. Drains are often placed to help remove fluid after surgery.

Recovering from your procedure

Recovery time after gynecomastia varies with each patient but most patients are ready to return to non-strenuous work within 1 week of surgery. You should avoid lifting more than 5-10 pounds for 3-4 weeks after surgery. You should not exercise or submerge your incisions under water until we instruct you otherwise. The drains are often removed 1-2 weeks after surgery. Wearing a compression wrap or garment is recommended for 3-4 weeks after surgery. More details will be discussed during your consultation.
